Pleased to share the keynote address by Hon. Diane Wood, Chief Judge of the Seventh Circuit. The keynote address, titled “Antitrust & IP: Does It Need to Be Retooled?” was delivered at the 63rd Annual IP Conference on Nov. 1, 2019.
We were delighted to host Judge Essex, who delivered a public lecture titled “The ITC: An Insider’s View.” Judge Essex joined Hogan Lovells as Senior Counsel after a decade of service as a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) judge. Judge Essex also met IP law students at a roundtable after his lecture, where he answered wide-ranging questions from them.
Online platforms have become a focal point for many in the United States, as well as in key jurisdictions around the world. Governments and legal advisers are struggling to understand the issues and implications these platforms raise, particularly in the areas of intellectual property, privacy, and antitrust law and practice.
This conference brings together top experts in government, industry, practice, and academia to share their cutting-edge insights on these issues, as well as what the future holds. We were delighted to welcome members and guests of the Copyright Society of the USA (CSUSA) to UIC John Marshall Law School last week. In a public lecture co-hosted with CSCUSA, Jennifer M. Mikulina (McDermott, Will & Emery) and Ariana Voigt (Catalina Marketing Corp.) presented on “Potential Pitfalls in Copyright: Fair Use and Data Compilations.”
IPKat recently reviewed “The Innovation Society and Intellectual Property,” a collection of essays published under the auspices of The European Intellectual Property Institutes Network (EIPIN).
The Thomas Edison Innovation Fellowship brings together a group of patent scholars to both learn from and work with distinguished leaders in the field over the course of a year. Organized by George Mason University’s Center for the Protection of IP (CPIP), Fellows will eventually publish one or more papers based on their research during the Fellowship.
Glad we are able to honor this great man who gave selflessly to others and recognize the ideals that he stood for with this award.
UIC Provost Susan Poser designed the Faculty-Administrator Leadership Program (FALP) to develop the leadership capabilities of faculty interested in learning more about senior administrative roles in higher education. The cohort selected this year consists of twelve faculty members representing the disciplines of medicine, mechanical and industrial engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, public health, design, pharmacy, linguistics, and law.
