Profiles in Leadership | Katie Moussouris

For this episode of Penn State Dickinson Law’s “Profiles in Leadership” series, I sat down with Katie Moussouris, a computer hacker with over 20 years of professional cybersecurity experience and the founder and CEO of Luta Security.
We spoke about her commencement address to Penn State University’s Information Sciences and Technology (IST) College’s Class of 2024, bug bounties, communication, and convening talent.
Katie shared how she deploys humor in her work and how she started learning BASIC at the tender age of eight. Katie’s surprising story behind her iconic pink hair was another interesting topic we touched upon. We also discussed Luta Security, the company she founded and now leads, what leadership succession looks like to her and the most important leadership lesson she learned.

Global IP Alliance Inaugural Conference | Diversity Equity Inclusion

Honored to be invited to speak at the inaugural Global Intellectual Property Alliance (GLIPA) Conference held at Georgia State University College of Law.

This conference focuses on the need to work collaboratively to strengthen innovation ecosystems around the world for the benefit of people by promoting increased awareness, regional dialogue, and networking on key IP issues. It aims to build a collaborative, long-term, action-oriented agenda with committed stakeholders, notably public and private sector actors, academia, and others, to bring IP to the hands of everyone around the world.

Elizabeth Lester Gwilym Roberts Micheal Binns, Esq. Maria Cecilia Romoleroux Akiko Kosaka, and I addressed diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts around the world, one of GLIPA’s three pillars. I spoke on the “National Strategy on Inclusive Innovation” the USPTO and U.S. Department of Commerce released earlier this month and highlighted clear and specific ways stakeholders can help students, women, and aliens assimilate into the innovation ecosystem, contribute to the economy, and help address global challenges.

Congratulations to United States Intellectual Property Alliance – USIPA and GLIPA Co-Founder Scott Frank, Nikhil Marathe, and Maria Fernanda Hurtado. Scott also serves on our advisory board at Penn State Dickinson Law’s IP and Innovation Initiative.

Penn State Dickinson Law | Commencement 2024

We celebrated Penn State Dickinson Law’s Class of 2024 Commencement yesterday. The respectful, joyous, touching, and, at times, even lighthearted moments were the result of years, if not decades, of leadership in building a community and culture that would hold together and sail steady even in choppy seas. Hearty congratulations to our students as well as their family and friends! It takes a village. It always has.

Slice of Life @ Penn State Dickinson Law | Bob Ackerman & Sarah Williams

Delighted to catch up with Bob Ackerman and Sarah J. Williams. Bob directed the Levin Center at Wayne Law and served as dean of the law school there. He’s rejoined us as a member of our emeriti faculty at Penn State Dickinson Law. Sarah and I had the occasion for a double celebration over ice cream. In addition to receiving news of her promotion from assistant to associate professor this week, it was Sarah’s birthday!
