Working Visit to Bloomington

Wrapped up a fruitful trip to Indiana University (Bloomington). Over lunch, Prof. Mark Janis who heads the Center for IP Research and I discussed how we can co-host a couple of events, alternating between Chicago and Indianapolis/Bloomington. This would allow us to expand the reach of our events to stakeholders in the Midwest while deploying our resources more efficiently.

At Prof. Marshall Leaffer‘s symposium, I shared with students and attorneys how AI and behavioral economics can help litigating parties provide courts with better evidence-based narratives in IP-antitrust cases involving innovation (“Futurecasting”). Participants, many of whom were international students, had great questions and insights to share. A few joined us for dinner afterward, where I learned that two of them will soon be coming to Chicago to join the IP teams at Jones Day and Ice Miller next year.

Coincidentally, Gabrielle Richards (JD ’17) from our admissions office was there at IU’s law schools fair to speak with prospective students about joining UIC John Marshall. She was encouraged by the number of sign-ups. In fact, she only had time for a quick chat with me between students!

Thank you again to Marshall, Mark, their team, and the students at IU for a memorable and enjoyable visit.
