Save the Date: IP, Technology and Social Justice in the Time of Coronavirus

Victor Hugo wrote that nothing is so powerful as an idea whose time has come. Last December, we reached out to the Institute for IP and Social Justice (https://iipsj.org/) based in Washington D.C. to co-organize a conference that would bring together intellectual property and social justice experts to address the most pressing issues of the day.

Over a series of meetings, we settled on the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on access to health and education, technology and the elderly, and the “rightsholder vs. the public” misconception of the IP ecosystem.

With events of this past week still fresh in our minds, the opportunity to come together to find common ground and understand different stakeholders’ perspectives could not have come at a better time. Nor could we have chosen a better partner in IIPSJ, who has built for itself a reputation as a trusted voice of inclusiveness in social, cultural, and economic life.

We are honored that Hon. Richard Linn will be delivering the keynote address and Hon. Paul Michel will deliver the opening remarks. They will join experts from academia, practice, civil society, industry, and government online on Friday, September 11, 2020, for what promises to be a riveting and one of the most-needed conversations of our times.

Please save the date. I hope to see you there.
