Provost Poser at 63rd Annual IP Conference
For the first time in 63 years, a university provost delivered the welcome remarks for John Marshall’s annual IP Conference. This year, John Marshall became Chicago’s only public law school and Provost Susan Poser graciously accepted our invitation to address our conference attendees. In thoughtful, self-prepared remarks, she noted that
“[t]oday’s conference, as you all know, is international in scope and brings together practicing lawyers, law professors, judges, government officials, business people from the private and non-profit sectors, and one brilliant computer scientist, from UIC of course, Dr. Bob Sloan, who is the head of our Department of Computer Science.
You have all come together to discuss intellectual property issues, one of the most dynamic legal fields these days, as it tries to keep up with the pace of technological change. This annual conference is one of the best ways not only to keep up but also to influence legal policy on these issues … [i]n this year, its sixty-third year, this meeting will not only continue to grow and enhance the reputation of the Law School but of UIC writ large.”
Today, a colleague pointed out to me what is probably the first tweet ever about our IP Conference and indeed, our IP program by a UIC official. There is much we can do with our UIC colleagues, both from the administration and those from the faculty at the different colleges. We are grateful for Provost Poser’s presence, encouragement, and support. Looking forward to welcoming her back again next year.
