Profiles in Leadership| Bill Kovacic

I recently sat down with Bill Kovacic, the doyen of antitrust law. He shared his perspectives on the GW Competition Law Center he founded and the crucial importance of partnerships. We delved into the FTC’s rule against non-competes, its independence and political imperatives, lessons he learned as FTC Chair, and his insights on the antitrust regulation of digital platforms.
We also explored the moderating effect of common law, whether Ireland can fill the “Brexit gap”, and whether US antitrust is becoming more European. Bill shared his thoughts on what’s holding Europe back from growing tech giants, leadership lessons from his time on Capitol Hill, and the question of whether America is on its way down. We capped off the discussion by talking about creating and navigating an international antitrust culture, his mentors, and his hopes and legacy.
Our conversation covers a broad range of critical issues in antitrust law and leadership. Catch the full interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTRc-9zwfpI
