Exploring Pathways to Publication with Oxford University Press
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of hosting Peter Daniell, Senior Acquisitions Editor at Oxford University Press, for a conversation with our community at Penn State Dickinson Law on how scholars can navigate the path from idea to book.
Peter offered invaluable insights into what editors look for in a proposal, from clarity of vision and originality of contribution to how a project fits within OUP’s mission and readership. He also demystified the editorial and approval process, including how proposals move through peer review, internal meetings, and the Delegate stage before contract.
Faculty participants appreciated the opportunity to engage directly with one of the world’s most respected academic publishers and to ask candid questions about timelines, proposal design, and transforming drafts into monographs.
I’m grateful to everyone who joined, and to Peter for his thoughtful and generous advice.
