Eric Lin: AI and the Future of Legal Work: From Research and Analysis to Drafting and Advocacy
It was a pleasure to host Eric Lin for a thoughtful and engaging conversation on AI and the Future of Legal Work with Penn State Dickinson Law alum, faculty, and staff.
Eric drew on his experience as a former IP litigator and his current role at Patlytics to explore how generative AI is reshaping legal research, analysis, drafting, and advocacy. The discussion moved beyond tools and efficiency to focus on professional judgment, ethical integration, and the skills tomorrow’s lawyers will need as AI becomes embedded across legal workflows.
What stood out was the emphasis on how lawyers and law schools adapt, not just what technologies can do. From classrooms to courtrooms, the challenge is preparing students and practitioners to use AI thoughtfully, responsibly, and with a clear understanding of where human judgment remains indispensable.
Grateful to Eric for sharing his insights, and to our faculty and staff who joined the conversation and helped make it a lively, interactive session.
