AI@NAPP 2020!
Looking forward to joining our friends at the National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP) to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on patent law and practice. On the panel with me are Jessie Suen (Park, Vaughan, Fleming & Dowler LLP) and Emily Tait (Jones Day).
NAPP began in 1996 as a virtual meeting place for solo practitioners, so holding their Annual Meeting and Conference online this year marks a return to their origins. NAPP has been active in the AI space. Last November, NAPP responded to the USPTO’s call for comments on patenting AI inventions.
In addition to its engagement with the patent community, NAPP shares another important trait with John Marshall in its engagement with smaller law practices. In 2019, law firms with 100 or fewer attorneys employed 5 times more of our graduates than law firms with 100 or more attorneys. Understanding the perspectives of NAPP’s members will allow us to better tailor our students’ IP education and equip them for aspects of practice that may not be “one-size-fits-all.”
If you’ll be at NAPP’s Annual Annual Meeting and Conference (July 20 – 22, 2020), I look forward to seeing you there!
