[Bogotá: Copyright, Connections, and Reunions]
A busy and rewarding visit to Bogotá, Colombia.
I was delighted to participate in the IFRRO World Congress and Legal Issues Forum, where I delivered a keynote on “The Hidden Copyright Risk in AI Training” and joined a panel discussion with Sharon Yin Yue Wong, Josephine Johnston, and Serena Dederding on exceptions for AI training in Hong Kong, the U.K., and Australia.
The discussions brought together perspectives from authors, publishers, collective management organizations, and legal experts worldwide, including Jana Vozarova, Fernando Zapata López, Graciela Melo-Sarmiento, Anke Schierholz, Lazarus Serobe, Catherine Zaller Rowland, Tracey Armstrong, Andrew Fong, Jens Barland, Veraliah Bueno Valtteri Niiranen, and Anne Bergman. Thank you to Anita Huss-Ekerhult, Antonios Baris, and the IFRRO team for the invitation and warm hospitality.
I enjoyed visiting OlarteMoure and catching up with Carlos R. Olarte, Mónica Guevara C., Eduardo Santos, and their colleagues. Carlos was a guest speaker when I taught at the Universidad de Los Andes in 2024, so it was especially good to reconnect. Penn State Dickinson Law has been building relationships in China, India, and Singapore to open doors for our students and faculty beyond the United States. I hope that in time we can develop similar opportunities in Colombia, drawing on the country’s legal and academic community.
Another highlight was reuniting with former students from my 2024 summer course at Universidad de los Andes, AI, IP, and Competition Law. I remember their thoughtful questions and willingness to engage with difficult issues. It was wonderful to catch up with them again two years later and see how well they were doing.
